This month, we were very proud to partner with the HSE in providing asbestos training for Environmental Health Officers.
On 13th April 2016, at Hambleton District Council’s premises in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, Omega’s Gary McKendrick & Steve Hubery, alongside HSE Inspector Paul Yeadon, delivered training sessions covering asbestos awareness, licensed removal work, risk assessments & method statements, site audits and enforcement actions.
The training day was very well received by the 30no EHO’s in attendance from York City Council and surrounding districts.
The day was split into a morning of theory sessions and an afternoon of practical exercises.
The practical sessions were more hands on and comprised three parts:
- Inspection of an Enclosure
- Inspection of a DCU
- Overview of an analyst’s site Laboratory
The only downside was the pouring rain that day but the mood remained positive and everyone enjoyed spotting the mistakes with the enclosure & DCU set up; putting the morning’s theory into practice.
Providing crucial support to the success of the day was Northallerton based licensed removal contractor Clarke’s Environmental Ltd, who built a small enclosure outside to simulate an AIB removal job.
Their Operations Director Danny Francis braved the wind and rain to construct a fine enclosure albeit with intentional errors! Clarkes’ H&S Manager Gill Elstob was also on hand to offer her support and experience throughout the day.
Our thanks are also extended to SMH Products Ltd David Stephenson and Mike Potts who provided the Decontamination Unit.
SMH also showcased their Fibrecheck technology for instant air sampling/fibre counting results which we were very interested to see.
Our Quality Manager Chris Pick provided us with tales of an Analyst and also kindly acted as our resident photographer for the day; a man of many talents indeed.
All in all, it was an entertaining and educational day had by all and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing the stage with the HSE; thanks to Paul Yeadon for his attendance.
We look forward to running our next training event. If you are interested please do get in touch with Gary or Steve on 0191 377 0900.
